There are two pairs Shatabdi Express trains between Bangalore and Chennai, the Chennai Bangalore Shatabdi Express and the Chennai to Mysore Shatabdi Express. Both takes about 5 hours travel time between Chennai and Bangalore.

If you are planning to travel from Bangalore to Chennai in the morning aim for the Bangalore Chennai Shatabdi (Train No: 12028), that leaves from Bangalore City (Station code : SBC) and also with a brief stop at Bangalore Cantonment station (Station code : BNC). Trains leaves Bangalore City at 6am and reaches Chennai by 11am. This Shatabdi also stops at Katpadi (Station Code :KPD), a connection station for many long distance express trains.
For evening travel to Chennai try the Mysore to Chennai Shatabdi Express (Train no 12008). This train leaves Bangalore City by 4.25pm and arrives at Chennai by 9.25pm. Also note this train does not have any other stop between Bangalore city and Chennai central.
From Chennai to Bangalore, go for the Mysore Bound Shadadi for day time travel (dep 6am, arrival 11am) and for evening travel , again the Chennai Bangalore (Train No: 12027) that leaves Chennai central by 5.30pm and arrives Bangalore by 10.30 in the night.
Also note the Mysore Chennai pairs do not operate on Wednesdays and the Bangalore Chennai pairs do not operate on Tuesdays
